Barns hold a special place in American history. Built by the farmers themselves for their own particular use, each one is individual.

This quilt is my interpretation of this American icon. Although some barns are attached to buildings, many barns stand alone.

I used the blue sky and green grass to emphasize the pastoral setting. Using a barn as the subject matter for a quilt seemed very appropriate. Both are rooted in American history, I decided however, to use a contemporary process.

The picture is divided into 2 inch squares each with a 1/2 inch circle fused to the square. The circles are satin stitched. All of this gives interest to what are very simple shapes.
