I love the fairy tales of the Syrian writer, Rafik Schami. One of his books, The Fairy Tales of Malula, inspired my work.

Malula is a little village in the mountains where the houses are all in different forms and colors, near each other like different kinds of hat boxes. Even so the stories seem to me just like a mountain of hatboxes, with many people living inside.

I made this quilt like the people of Malula build their houses, one on top of each other with no plan.
